I knew Terri's prognosis intellectually but I didn't engage with it emotionally: so the profound, devastating grief, sense of loss and loneliness has come as a deep shock to me. I suppose the suppression of emotional engagement must be a kind of protection but it is not helping me now - I just hope it helped Terri at the time.
